Know where you will book
Identify the program offering the award, even if a partner airline operates the flight. Create the required loyalty account and check the name matches the account you are transferring from.
Confirm before transferring
Search the exact flights or hotel stay directly with the loyalty program. Confirm the number of seats or the full room stay, points price, cash charges, and cancellation rules. If a hold is available, understand its expiry and conditions.
Read the transfer terms
Check that your card or membership is eligible, verify the ratio and any bonus, and allow for minimums and transfer increments. A quoted transfer time is not a guarantee that the award will remain available. Chase, Amex, and Bilt state that transfers are final or cannot be reversed.
Finish the booking
Confirm points arrived in the destination loyalty account, then book through that program and retain the confirmation. For separate flight and hotel bookings, review the cancellation exposure if one part disappears before you finish.
